• [Sir] Alastair Pilkington (1920-95, developer of the float glass technology) was not related to the family which formed Pilkington Brothers!
• Float glass is produced by floating a ribbon of molten glass across a bath of molten tin. The molten tin itself is what gives float glass its excellent finish.
